Eurogamer has received multiple reports of Diablo 3 accounts being hacked.
Over the weekend Eurogamer writer Christian Donlan saw his account hacked and transferred to the control of the mysterious Anna. Her conversation with Eurogamer reviews editor Oli Welsh is documented below.
A quick glance online shows multiple reports of Diablo 3 accounts being hacked, suggesting it is a growing issue. Players have seen the loss of items stored in character inventory and stash, and gold removed as their accounts are stripped bare. Blizzard has been working to 'roll back' affected characters to a point before accounts were compromised, but some progress is lost.
The reports coincided with the EU Diablo 3 servers going offline on Sunday afternoon for around four hours, preventing players from logging in (error 33). It has been suggested that the EU servers were taken offline following a SQL injection attack, but this remains unconfirmed.
Blizzard offers an Authenticator designed to provide extra security to your account. Donlan did not have the authenticator before the hack, but reports suggest accounts have been compromised even with this enabled.
One theory suggested by players on the Battle.net forum revolves around hijacking session identifiers, which would allow hackers to take over accounts without alerting Blizzard's authentication server. Again, this remains unconfirmed.
Whatever the cause, Blizzard will be keen to address the situation quickly, especially in light of the upcoming release of the real money auction house and the growing complaints from players. Blizzard said last week it was set for release at the end of the month.
Eurogamer has requested comment from Blizzard, which is yet to address the issue.
Being semi new to the game I dont have enough experience to tell. However, many of the significantly higher difficulty settings (like Empowered GR150) are simply not possible to participate with legit items..at least in my limited experience I dont see how its possible.
Any comments on this would be greatly helpful. I apologize in advance about creating a thread regarding an item with 200,000k dam, I just felt the hack question was more to the point..

It can be an issue if you play non-season only.
In seasons though, they require you log into their server, which eliminates things like item hacks, etc..
So if you want to play on PS4, your best bet is to play seasons. If you want to group, ONLY do it in seasons. When seasons end, to ensure your account does not get tainted in any way, only play solo!
Hope this helps :)

Its strange because the majority of high lv players seem to be using hacked items. but the GR are so hard i dont ser how a 'normal' olayer cpuld ever beat them. I dunno just wierd. I think ill try hardcore for the challenge and fun. Hacked equals lame even if you choose to play legit. a lot of GF players you party with use it. Soooo..
Hopefully blizzard finds a way to get rid of and fix this complex and frustrating issue. I paid for a game..that i assumed was equal and fair.

Seasons are all there is on console. Non seasons are a waist land.
It also happens in PC version, just not to that severe a degree. We had exploits and the last round they allowed the exploiters to keep their ill gotten gains, making non seasons a sham for anyone who played without exploiting.

Nah, you don't need to be online to play seasons on PS4. What they did do was make it so you can't gift stuff to other players. They also added a few measures to prevent duping.
The hacked gear on PS4 comes from the PS3 version of the game. The cheaters are editing a PS3 save and then importing it to the PS4. Since Season starts from scratch with no gear, there are no hacked items.
On Xbox one there are communities that play strictly legit and don't allow for modded/hacked gear, I'm sure there is a similar one on PS4 so that you can still group up in non season

A lot of the people in those communities tend to wear perfectly rolled gear which is pretty odd.

The reason I quite playing on the console is that some people in my 'legit' playgroup decided duping was okay.

Disconnect your internet from your PS4 and try seasons, or sign off the internet and try, it will not let you.
Tried it already.

I remember when I first started playing.
Diablo III on 360. I didnt know anything about the game besides that I had played DII.
one of the people gave me a set of gear, that I later found out was a HUGE hack set.
Each piece gave me 50k% Experience boost, and 10k% damage. EACH PIECE. It also did a whole bunch of other crazy !@#$.
So yeah, I would only assume that its an issue on the PS3/4 as well.
I had that set for a long time, but I didnt do anything competitive. I just used it to level a new alt, then switched to the stuff the game offered normaly.
I honestly have more fun on the pc with just regular stuff all day.
You can play seasons on PS4 offline but you need an internet connection to continue your character..once in a session you can then disconnect but you won't get leaderboard entries or seasonal rewards.
There are no hacked items in seasons on PS4 nor can you duplicate. However, save scumming still exists since saves are offline.
Non season on consoles is a joke..duped items, hacked items etc..

Also can still be said as:
YOU CANNOT play seasons without an internet connection. Because it will never connect you.
Also, I thought they changed season 11 to have all saves be required to be recorded online as well? Due to the massive issues they had in season 10? Could be wrong here though.
I'm being fussy but you CAN play seasons without an internet connection..you CANNOT create or continue a seasonal character when you are not connected to the internet..
Thus, as I said above, you need to be on the internet to create a new seasonal toon or continue one but after you are in a game you can disconnect from the internet with the caveat of no leaderboard entries.
Saves on PS4 are 100% offline, there is no server involved in your save file..the only server involved is when the game checks if a season is live or not but it does not host any save files.

Nope. They don't have game servers that store your toons like they do on PC. All saves are local. All Blizzard did was add some measures to make it harder to dupe stuff.

Yeah, the fact you cannot CREATE something without being connected to the internet pretty much makes it impossible to play imo.
I see where you are coming from, but the fact you have to be online to in your words 'Create and Continue' is why seasons are free from item dupes and various hacks.
On Xbox One, D3 seems to be free from dupes etc for the most part. PS4 is rife with them. They do exist. I regularly run groups and kick people for doing it from group. PS4 'kick from group' is nonexistant. Xbox Live FTW.
What happens if you come across a hacked item and do not realize it until you've already maxed out your character? Would you get banned if blizzard put out a patch or what

Secret Whimsyshire Level
Follow the steps below to unlock the secret Whimsyshire level.
Diablo 3 Ps4 Gamestop
- Load a later quest in Act I and take the waypoint to the Cathedral Gardens. If you follow Leoric's Passage, you will reach the Cathedral. Find the Black Mushroom, a rare spawn.
- Go to the Caldeum Bazaar in Act II, and talk to Squirt the Peddler. Under the Miscellaneous tab, buy Wirt's Cowbell for 25,000 gold.
- In Act III's Caverns of Frost, go to Level 2 and find the Ballistae fight area. If you end up in the Ice Caverns instead, exit and try again. Fight Chiltara until the mob drops the Gibbering Gemstone.
- Fight Izual in Act IV until you get the random drop for the 'Plan - Staff of Herding.'
- Once you have those four items, go to your inventory and learn the pattern so you can craft the Staff of Herding for 50,000 gold. After you have killed Izual, you can get plans for different difficulties from Gorell the Quartermaster in Bastion's Keep Stronghold.
- Take the Staff of Herding to Old Tristram Road in Act I and find the Cow King's Ghost, located near a pit that glows red. Talk to the ghostly cow, and the red glow will become a rainbow color. That is the entrance to the Whimsyshire dungeon.
- You must have defeated the difficulty level to enter the secret dungeon.
Easter Eggs
Hidden Development Hell Level
It is possible to access a hidden 'Development Hell' level. Play Act I's 'A Shattered Crown' quest on Nightmare difficulty or harder, and go to the part where you open the gate. Next, you must go to the Cemetery of the Forsaken. Three of the crypts are named 'Defiled Crypt,' and when you enter one, it may randomly take you to Development Hell instead of the quest area. You can save and quit and retry until it takes you there.
In Development Hell, the Risen Dead enemies have the names of the members of the game's development team. The descriptions for these enemies show their job title. Jay Wilson, the game's director shows up as an elite monster.
Glitches
Duplicate Items and Earn Infinite Gold
Follow the steps below to duplicate items and earn infinite gold:
- Enter another player's online game.
- Drop the items or weapons you want to duplicate.
- Do not leave your inventory. Instead, press the PS button and go to the dashboard.
- Return to the game. The items you dropped should be back in your inventory as well as on the ground.
- Pick up the items from the ground and sell the duplicates.
- Repeat as often as you like, but keep an eye on the upper right corner of the screen when you drop your items. If the game auto-saves, pick up your items and finish the mission instead.
Hints
Disable Quest Text
If you do not want to see quest text in the chat, go to the 'Sound' options. Uncheck the box beside 'Show Quest Dialog in Chat.'
More Experience, Gold and Items
Another way to earn easy experience, gold, and items is to play Act III: 7 - Kill Azmodan. Fight elite mobs, but ignore all of the other enemies. Defeat Azmodan, take the soul and the loot, and teleport to the stronghold. There, you should talk to the guard and head to the armory and the watchtower. From there, go through the portal, go to Tyrael, go through the next portal, and defeat Iskatu. You can skip cutscenes and speed up dialogue to make this a faster process. You can repeat it as often as you want.
Power Level an Alt
If you want to power level an alternate character, you can put a high level gem on them. If you want to remove a gem, either take it to the blacksmith or spend gold to use the gem remover.
New Recruit
Locate the Templar at Act I's 'The Cathedral: Level 3,' during the 'Reign of the Black King' quest. Deep in the Cathedral, you will find a group of cultists using dark energy on a man. After you kill the cultists, the man will ask you to find his gear, which is in a chest a little further ahead. After he equips his gear, he will introduce himself as a Templar and offer to kill a nearby renegade, Jondar. Once he defeats Jondar, he will ask to join you. If you accept, he will follow you, and if you decline, you can hire him in town.
Recruit a Enchantress
Locate the Enchantress at Act II's 'Howling Plateau,' during the 'Shadows in the Desert' quest. At the Sundered Canyon, you can talk to a slender woman, the Enchantress, to have her join you as a temporary ally for the quest. Her spells will see through false dead ends and reveal footprints. If you follow the footprints to the Hidden Conclave and the Secret Altar and defeat the enemies there, the way will be opened to the Black Canyon Bridge. When you talk to the Enchantress, she will ask to join you. If you accept, she will follow you (replacing any other follower who happens to be with you), and if you decline, you can hire her at the holding camp.
How to extract files without winzip. There is already a software installed on the Windows PC and Mac which will help you to extract a ZIP file. You can download non-WinZip applications on Android and iPhone to open a ZIP file without WinZip.Steps to Extract ZIP File on Windows.
Create Gear Carrying Alt Characters
If you are running out of space, instead of upgrading your shared stash, you can create new characters and give your extra gear to them.
Earn Easy Experience, Gold and Items
To earn easy experience, gold, and items, play Act I's 'The Legacy of Cain - Explore Cellar' quest. Go to the Old Ruins. Head north, then east, and enter the cellar. Defeat Captain Daltyn and his minions, and you will earn coins and at least one magic item. You can also loot the cauldron to get at least one health potion. Complete the quest by talking to Leah. You will earn experience and gold, and a loot chest will appear 40% of the time. After you exit, you can repeat this quest as often as you want.
Recruit a Scoundrel
Locate the Scoundrel at Act I's 'Fields of Misery,' during the 'Broken Blade' quest. On your way to the Drowned Temple with Leah, you will encounter a man who requests your help. He will lead you to a girl surrounded by thieves. After you defeat all of the thieves, talk to the man to learn that he is a Scoundrel. He will ask to join you. If you accept, he will follow you (replacing the Templar, if he is with you), and if you decline, you can hire him in town.
Easy Life Potions
Go to an area where a life potion is available and collect it. Leave the game and return. Go back to that same area, and there will be another life potion for you to collect. You can repeat this strategy until you have as many life potions as you want.
